Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for a fee reported to be in the region of £42m (€49m). The deal was slowed down due to sell-on clause. That both of his former clubs, Roma and Basel, were entitled to. But Mikel Arteta has finally landed his top defensive target.

The 22-year-old is left-footed and can play both centre-back and left-back. As Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his defence. After a superb season in which he conceded just 29 goals and kept 18 clean sheets in the Premier League.

Calafiori is the club’s second signing of the summer, following David Raya’s permanent £27m move.
